GOLDEN HOUR I've mentioned 'golden hour' in a cou GOLDEN HOUR I've mentioned 'golden hour' in a couple of posts lately and it has caused a little flurry of questions. So - for anyone wondering - this is what I'm on about:- We have two Golden Hours a day - the hour immediately after sunrise and the hour immediately before sunset. If we have the promise of (or if it has been) a fantastically sunny day then that light is tinged with gold and very, very beautiful. We also have those incredible skies to use as a backdrop. Even if it's not a fantastically sunny day this is a lovely time of day to shoot. With the sun close to the horizon the light is diffused with very little contrast and it gives a lovely soft and dewy look to your portraits. So - YES - we can do golden hour shoots all year round and not just on sunny days. And - YES - the time of sessions IS a moveable feast as the times of sunrise and sunset change daily (and I have an app on my phone that tells me when they will be on any given date in any given location all over the world!) So - today, here in Northamptonshire - the evening golden hour starts at around 7pm. If you're booking me for the 4th October we'd need to meet up at 5.45. But - YES - if it is something you want to do you can book me outside 'normal' office hours .... which is great for you too as a) you're not at work and b) the children are not in school!! Every year on August 19th - today - we celebrate W Every year on August 19th - today - we celebrate World Photography Day . The day encourages photographers from around the globe to share a single photo that encapsulates their world. A single photo!! How can you ever do that! So I'm sharing two from yesterdays beautiful wedding that I feel TOTALLY encapsulate my world. The first is a hastily and badly taken selfie of me with a gentleman by the name of Florian who I had never met before but who turns out to be the owner of the V&B Bar opposite the Guildhall in Northampton and who dropped everything he was doing yesterday, raced up the stairs in hot pursuit of a mad photographer, unlocked and opened windows and then held on to said mad photographer as she leaned precariously out of said windows wielding heavy cameras. The second is the photograph that we could never have got without the man I had never met before - my beautiful bride and groom with their utterly incredible friends and family outside the Guildhall and taken by a photographer hanging out of a bar window. Amazing people all doing amazing things and helping to make amazing memories. Photographers? Guys!!! We are just the glue that binds you all together. And this is my world. What an honour!!
